4/30 Wall forms stripped
Just a quick update. We did not make it out the site today, but we received a couple third party reports. Our friend Andy stopped up in the morning and King Bros were stripping the forms. So it looks like we have an actual foundation. Kent Garrison, the framer, stopped at the site in the late afternoon. All the forms were stripped and the foam insulation for the foundation had been delivered. Our first of many deliveries from Baker-Miller Lumber, a local lumber yard with fantastic customer service. Tomorrow is Eli and Asa's school May Faire, so no work. However, Sunday we will be putting foam on the foundation walls so it is ready for back fill on Monday.

Foundation wall pour
4/29 - Foundation wall pour
It is amazing how fast these guys are. They built the forms, put in the rebar, had it inspected, and poured the walls................all today. It looks great and tomorrow they will strip the forms. Kristin and I are getting more accustomed to the truck/machine damage on the land, but there is a little more each day. We may be able to insulate the foundation this weekend (a job that we are doing). If that happens we can back fill next week and that will make the site look a little better. The framers are starting on Monday 5/3, we are very excited since that will be much less damaging to the land. The framing should take about 3 weeks.
Eli and Asa had a ball watching the concrete truck with the conveyor on it. They even got their own pile of concrete to play with.

Footers complete
4/28 - Footers complete
Kristin and the kids went up to the land after school. Sadly I was not able to go so the following update is second hand. As promised the footers were poured this morning. You can see from the attached video, the forms have already been stripped and the footers were bedded in gravel. Unfortunately the concrete truck caused some damage to the driveway and he still has to make 2 more trips in (walls and then floor). Kristin and I can't wait until this phase is done.

Foundation Footers
4/27 – Foundation Footers
Unbelievable!!! It is snowing today. 3 weeks of nice weather and just as we start our project the crappy weather moves in. King Bros concrete started at about 1pm. They completed the footer forms and will pour tomorrow morning. We cannot wait until the foundation is complete so we can put some dirt back.

Excavation of foundation - aka Lots of dirt
4/26/10 – Excavation of foundation and footer drain. Perc test completed.
It poured rain all day and they dug anyway. Kristin and I were worried that we would end up with a swimming pool and not a foundation hole. Arrived at site about 4pm to lay out string line for King Bros (concrete), both Kristin and I were scared to actually see the excavation work. We both knew it would be ugly and we were NOT disappointed. Although the excavation only comprised a small area of our land it was shocking to see the amount of dirt they moved and the destruction the excavator reaped on that area. The soil in Danby turns a greasy consistency went wet, I think because of the clay content. It was definitely a muddy wet mess and it physically hurt to look at the piles of dirt, the hole, the excavator, and the foundation drain trench cutting through one of our forest trails. However I have to say that they did a great job with the hole. It is square, clean and flat on the bottom.
Eli and Asa, unlike mom and dad, were beside themselves with excitement. A huge hole, 10 foot high piles of dirt (really mud), and an excavator driving around………….what more could a kid want. I mentioned to Kristin that we needed to absorb some of this enthusiasm and not be so obsessed/stressed with mud and rain.
Spoke with King Bros in the evening. They asked how muddy it was and said they would probably be out there about 1pm. Kristin and the kids are headed up there after school.
